Scary Scene Unfolds With Tennis Player Collapsing During Miami Open

A horrifying scene unfolded during Monday's action at the Miami Open when French tennis player Arthur Cazaux collapsed in the middle of his match against Harold Mayot.

The moment came during the third set with Cazaux awaiting a serve from Mayot. With Mayot going through his pre-serve routine, Cazaux began leaning to his left before eventually falling and rolling onto his back. Cazaux laid on the court for a few seconds, barely moving, before a medic rushed onto the scene. The umpire also left their chair to check on Cazaux as well.

The video is tough to watch seeing Cazaux nonchalantly fall to the ground.

Cazaux was ultimately taken off the court in a wheelchair with the umpire announcing that he had to retire from the match "due to illness" giving Mayot the win while leading 2-1 in the third set.

It is unclear what illness Cazaux, the No. 74 ranked player in the world, may have been dealing with, but many pointed to the heat in Miami as a culprit of the incident. It reached around 87 degrees in Miami on Monday.

Mayot, ranked 141st, is set to face David Goffin in his next match of the tournament.

Players collapsing under the sun in Miami isn't an entirely unheard of situation as Jack Draper collapsed during the tournament back in 2021.
