If The Teaser Is Any Indicator, Netflix's Upcoming 'Senna' Limited Series Will Be A Must-Watch

Hollywood has its eyes on Formula 1 these days and there's a slew of projects that are either coming out or are still in development centering on the series. One of these is the Netflix limited series Senna, and man, oh man, does it look phenomenal.

Full disclosure, I somehow missed this trailer getting released a few days ago, which is wild. I'm usually on top of the F1 world, but maybe I was too busy kicking ass and taking names that day and I missed it.

So, when I hopped over to YouTube for something else I stumbled across it and my jaw just about hit the floor.

You might need to read some subtitles for this puppy — unless you're fluent in Portuguese, which I'm assuming you aren't — but it looks like it'll be worth it.

Now, if you're not familiar with Ayrton Senna (it's weird you clicked on this, but nonetheless, good for you), he's regarded as one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history.

No, not regarded. He is one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history.

As you can see in that clip, Senna is played by Gabriel Leone, who was also in Ferrari. The dude is getting typecast in racing movies. Anyway, he is sitting in a McLaren and that's where he had his most successful years, and a high-profile rivalry with his teammate Alain Prost.

How intense was that rivalry? Try one driver wrecking the other in the final race of the season to win the championship in back-to-back seasons, with each driver getting one season as the wrecker and another as the wrecker.

For real, it's wild.

Of course, the Senna story ends on a tragic note (spoiler alert) with his death during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola. That weekend is regarded as one of the darkest in the sport's history because, in addition to Senna's death in the Grand Prix, Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger was killed in a crash during qualifying.

It's a fascinating story, and if you want to brush up before the series drops, I highly recommend the 2010 documentary, Senna, which is phenomenal.

The limited series is slated to be released this year.
