Super Bowl Hero Malcolm Butler Arrested In Rhode Island on DUI Charges: 'Take Me To Jail'

Super Bowl XLIX hero Malcolm Butler, who grabbed the game-ending interception against Russell Wilson, was arrested for allegedly being under the influence in North Providence (Rhode Island) earlier this month.

First reported by GoLocal, the North Providence Police Department arrested Butler on March 16. Authorities reportedly questioned Butler after finding his white Mercedes Benz E300 blocking traffic, halted at an intersection early in the morning (3:30 a.m., ET).

Butler appeared under the influence of alcohol and refused a chemical test. His speech was slurred and the ex-player's eyes appeared bloodshot.

"Just take me to jail," Butler said, according to the police report.

A week prior, on Mar. 9, Butler had announced his second official retirement from the NFL.

The 34-year-old had not played a snap since 2020, playing with Tennessee at the time, but jumped aboard several practice squads since, including a second stint with the New England Patriots.

The police department filed the DUI charges against Butler on March 21.

Butler is scheduled to attend a court hearing at the 3rd Division District Court in Providence on Thursday.

Butler won two memorable Super Bowls in New England, including the tight clash against the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 and the 28-3 comeback game against the Atlanta Falcons.
