Special Broadcast of Golden Knights and Avalanche Game Will Feature Bugs Bunny, Batman, And More

Alternate broadcasts for kids are all the rage and they've been done to varying degrees of success.

Now, Warner Bros. Discovery wants in on the craze that has seen the Jaguars and Falcons play in the world of Toy Story and Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick Star calling Super Bowl LVIII.

The NHL announced Wednesday that April 14's Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights game on TNT will be simulcast on TruTV using real-time animation to put characters into the game.

They're calling it the MultiVersus NHL Face-Off and all kinds of characters will hit the ice including Bugs Bunny, Batman, Wonder Woman, Shaggy, Velma and some I've never heard of.

The Tasmanian Devil will serve as the on-ice official for the occasion, because when you think order and rule-following, Taz comes to mind.

Very cool, although, it's a missed opportunity not throwing Marvin the Martian in net as an homage to Patrick Lalime (who always had the Looney Tunes character on his mask), but whatevs…

In all honesty, the example they've been sharing is pretty impressive.

Also, Bugs Bunny has a serious set of hands and a terrible shot.

These kids' broadcasts are always funny to me. On one hand, I think anything you can do to get a kid to watch a game is great. On the other hand, are we really at a point where a youngster can't just sit and watch a hockey game based solely on the fact that it's a hockey game?

Either way, it's a fun idea and something that might get the next generation of hockey fans hooked on the sport.

Steve Mears and former NHLer Colby Armstrong will be on the call for the game on TruTV and Max.

This sounds intriguing enough that if I'm watching the game on April 14, I might need to flip the channel and take a peek.
