Skip Bayless Issues Blunt Apology To Johnny Manziel: VIDEO

Skip Bayless apologized to Johnny Manziel for hyping him up as the NFL's next great QB.

Manziel was drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Browns in 2014, and immediately entered the league with an incredible amount of attention and expectations after winning the Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M.

Among the loudest voices supporting Johnny Football was Skip Bayless. The sports pundit famously claimed Manziel would be bigger than LeBron James.

Skip Bayless apologizes to Johnny Manziel.

That didn't come close to happening. The former dual-threat QB was out of the league after two very disappointing seasons. Now, Bayless is apologizing for the expectations he put on Manziel's shoulders.

"Silly me. I went so far as to say that you could become bigger in Cleveland than LeBron James...I thought, ‘ If Johnny does what I think Johnny is capable of doing, you can own Cleveland, Ohio.’ And, It didn't go that way. I guess I'm apologizing to you. I hope I didn't increase the expectations of you to the highest of levels that you couldn't live up to," Bayless told Manziel during a Thursday interview on "Undisputed."

Obviously, Skip Bayless doesn't have anything to apologize to Johnny Manziel. It's not his fault the former Texas A&M superstar turned into a massive bust.

That falls squarely on Manziel and nobody else. Having said that, it is simply incredible that Manziel hasn't played in the NFL in nearly a decade, and he still moves the needle. Has there ever been an NFL QB who regularly was still in the headlines after just two years in the league?

If there is, he's not coming to mind. Netflix released an outstanding documentary on Johnny Football that is a must-watch. He definitely doesn't come off looking good in it, but again, it moved the needle in a huge way.

It will be fascinating to see how long Manziel's star power lingers because that flame doesn't seem close to being extinguished. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
