Shannon Sharpe Shares Braindead Take On Marriage And The NBA

Shannon Sharpe is the proud owner of one of the wildest takes we've heard here at OutKick in a long time.

Talk TV is full of piping hot takes. It's kind of the entire business model. Say outrageous things, the clips go viral and a bunch of free attention gets poured. Rinse, wash and repeat.

However, every once in a while, a guy will unleash a truly unreal take that transcends the basic talk TV model.

Enter Shannon Sharpe.

Shannon Sharpe implies face of the NBA needs to be married.

The ESPN talent went on live TV and actually suggested a player needs to be married in order to be the face of the NBA. Scorching hot!

"What about relationship status? Magic and Bird were married. LeBron was in a relationship with Savannah. Because when we look at Presidential candidates, we want them to be secure, we want them to be foundational pieces," Sharpe declared on "First Take."

JJ Redick and Stephen A. Smith were in a state of absolute confusion hearing Sharpe's comments. Check out the truly bizarre moment below, and let me know your reactions on his take at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

What the hell is Shannon Sharpe talking about? Does anyone know? If they do, please let us know because I don't have a clue what the hell the ESPN pundit is talking about.

Let me be clear. I'm a pro-marriage guy, many people who work at OutKick are married, I believe in marriage and think society is better the more marriage and nuclear families we have.

However, being married means absolutely nothing when it comes to putting a ball through a circular rim, playing tight defense late in a game or being the face of the league.

You know how quickly I can debunk his wild claim? Kevin Durant is a generational player who is a top five NBA player of the past two decades, and he's never been married.

Furthermore, his teammate Devin Booker, another dominant player, is also single. Both NBA stars. Both not married.

Again, not against marriage at all. In fact, I'm incredibly pro-marriage, and I think that's been made clear over the years. You can be pro-marriage and also recognize having a ring on your finger doesn't translate to winning championship rings.

Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest QBs in NFL history. Never married. Tom Brady was married, and it ended in a very expensive divorce. I can go on and on. There's no perfect science. Maybe I'm wrong, and you all disagree. If that's the case, let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com, but I think most of you will agree there's no connection between the two.
