Sean Miller Goes Nuclear On Xavier Players After Embarrassing Loss To Marquette

Sean Miller isn't overly pleased with his Xavier roster.

The Musketeers are currently a disappointing 13-14, 7-9 in Big East play and are coming off a humiliating 88-64 loss to Marquette over the weekend. Xavier basketball certainly doesn't have the aura around it the program once did.

It's fallen hard and fallen fast. Sean Miller has also seen enough, and he let everyone know it Monday night.

Sean Miller unloads after embarrassing loss to Marquette.

Recently, Rick Pitino tore into his St. John's players before ultimately walking his comments back. Well, Miller must have seen that because he did more or less the same Monday night.

"The disposition of our group in Milwaukee playing Marquette is just fundamentally unacceptable. They were not ready to play, they did not play with great effort, and there's a couple guys that quite frankly don't deserve to play anymore," Miller said after the 24-point less.

"There's a couple guys that quite frankly don't deserve to play anymore."

Yikes. That's about as brutal as it gets in terms of letting guys know where they stand. Let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com if you agree.

In case there's any doubt about how Miller feels about his 13-14 season, there should be any doubts left. The Xavier coach sounds livid.

You know things are off the rails when a coach tells the media members of his roster shouldn't be playing anymore. Generally speaking, that's the kind of stuff that's saved for private conversations behind closed doors.

Not with Sean Miller, Rick Pitino and a handful of other coaches. They'll just give it to their guys, and I'm kind of split on it. Tough love is something this country is sorely lacking, but at the same time, do guys want to play for a coach who is openly at war with them? I don't know. It's a serious and fair question. I used to work in college athletics, and I've seen what toxic coaching can do. It doesn't end well.

At the same time, a coach has to hold his guys accountable, and if you're playing at Xavier and 13-14, then somebody needs a good kick in the butt.

Did Miller go too far or toe the line? That will be up for him, his assistants and the locker room to decide. Let me know your take at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
