Scottie Scheffler Shares The Powerful And Faithful Advice Friends Gave Him Ahead Of Second Masters Victory

After winning the 2022 Masters, his first major championship victory, Scottie Scheffler spoke at length about how he was essentially inconsolable on Sunday morning ahead of his final round tee time. He shared that he began crying given the pressures he was about to face and that his wife, Meredith, was able to help calm his nerves before he went out and won the golf tournament by three shots.

The Sunday morning before the final round of the 2024 Masters was different to the morning in 2022 for two main reasons. One, Scheffler already had a green jacket in his closet and was prepared for what was to come later that afternoon. Two, his wife wasn't with him this time around as she didn't make the trip to Augusta with the due date of the couple's first child fast approaching.

While he admitted he was overwhelmed prior to this year's final round, Scheffler went out and shot a final round 68 to secure his second Masters victory by four shots. After earning his second green jacket, Scheffler detailed what his emotions were like leading up to his tee time on Sunday and shared the powerful piece of advice his friends gave him that seemed to put things into perspective for the 27 year old.

"I was sitting around with my buddies this morning, I was a bit overwhelmed, I told them, I wish I didn't want to win as badly as did I or as badly as I do," Scheffler explained. "I think it would make the mornings easier."

"But I love winning. I hate losing. I really do. And when you're here in the biggest moments, when I'm sitting there with the lead on Sunday, I really, really want to win badly. And my buddies told me this morning, my victory was secure on the cross. And that's a pretty special feeling to know that I'm secure for forever, and it doesn't matter if I win this tournament or lose this tournament. My identity is secure for forever."

After sharing what was a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at his emotions prior to Sunday's final round, Scheffler was then asked about how he leans on his Christian faith out on the course.

"I believe that today's plans were already laid out many years ago, and I could do nothing to mess up those plans. I have been given a gift of this talent, and I use it for God's glory. That's pretty much it," Scheffler explained. "So, when I'm out there, I try to compete to the best of my abilities."

Everything has been working for Scheffler so far in 2024. He is by far and away the best player on the planet at the moment and has now won three times in a five-week stretch.
