Ricky Williams Says He Could Have Bigger Impact On A College Football Program Than Coach Deion Sanders

One of the biggest stories in sports from mid-August 2023 to late September 2023 was Deion Sanders and the University of Colorado Buffaloes.

However, according to college football legend and ex-NFLer Ricky Williams, that pales in comparison to what it would be like if he took over a college football program.

This sounds like a wild take, but let's hear him out, shall we?

Williams made the proclamation on an appearance of The Momentum Podcast. He started by pointing out that he already has some coaching experience. He coached running backs at Incarnate Word.

"I had good coaches, but the best coach I ever had was me," Williams said. "Coaching myself. And I just use the same general techniques that I used to use to get the best out of myself in order to get the best out of the kids that I coached."

You may recall that Williams told OutKick's own Dan Dakich that he felt his calling in life was never to be a football player, but to be a teacher.

That makes a lot of sense, you can probably see Williams being a pretty successful head coach.

He was then asked if he would consider coaching at his alma mater — the University of Texas — if they offered him the gig.

"Hell yeah," he said, before adding the caveat that the idea would be a stretch.

When the prospect of Williams leading the Longhorns was compared to the "Deion Effect" at Colorado, that was when Williams really offered an interesting take.

"It'd be bigger than a Deion effect," he said.  "Even if a smaller school offered me. When I say 'better than Deion,' or 'different than Deion,' it's because I'm an astrologer. So when I'm coaching these kids, I'm not just looking at what I see with my eyes, I'm looking at something deeper."

I don't know if I agree with this take, but I do know one thing: I would like to see it happen.

Some school needs to pick up the phone and bring Williams in so we can see how it plays out. The program would see an uptick in publicity and we'll get to see if Williams was right or not.

Who knows? He might be!

I want to see this happen for science. Someone make a call!
