Oklahoma Basketball Coach Responds To Reports He's Gearing Up To Flee

Oklahoma's basketball coach, Porter Moser, sounds committed to the Sooners.

Moser and the Sooners are currently slated to be a nine-seed in the latest ESPN bracketolgy and have a record of 20-11 going into the Big 12 tournament.

Despite the fact the Sooners are having a solid season by Oklahoma standards, there's been some speculation he could return to Illinois to coach DePaul - a perennial cellar dweller.

Speculation was set on fire when Dick Weiss reported Moser is "in line to leave" in order to coach the Blue Demons, and it was also touched on by ESPN.

ESPN recently wrote the following about the situation:

"The Blue Demons fired Tony Stubblefield in late January, but they're still going through the process to find a replacement. The most intriguing speculation centers around Oklahoma's Porter Moser, a native of the Chicago suburbs who spent a decade at Loyola Chicago. Talks aren't as advanced as social media would lead you to believe, but there's interest and DePaul has expressed it would be willing to pay Moser's buyout, which is around $6.5 million, sources told ESPN."

Porter Moser responds to speculation he's leaving Oklahoma.

However, Moser is now hitting back, claiming it's all nonsense. He took to Twitter Monday night to crush the rumors by stating "THERE IS ZERO TRUTH" to any claim that he's leaving Norman.

"These accounts make stuff up and there is no validity to any of these ‘sources’ b/c I have spoken to NO ONE about any job," the Oklahoma coach added.

Moser hits back at rumors.

It's always fun when coaches do stuff like this, because it leaves very little wiggle room if they ever change their mind. Was Porter going to leave for DePaul?

Probably not. The move wouldn't make any sense. He has ties to the region after coaching Loyola, but DePaul is a terrible major college basketball team.

The team's last 20-win season was 2006-2007 and its last season above .500 was 2018-2019. While Oklahoma is certainly not a basketball school, it is a major program joining the SEC next season. It'd be crazy to walk away from the job in Norman in order to coach the Blue Demons.

However, Moser is going to embarrass himself if he does leave the Sooners for DePaul or any other job at this point. Tweeting "I LOVE Oklahoma and Sooner Nation" is going to bite him in the butt if he cuts and runs else - whether it's DePaul or a different program.

The greatest example ever is Nick Saban infamously claiming he wouldn't leave the Dolphins for Tuscaloosa. He went on to win six national titles with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Will Moser find himself regretting his words? Probably not, as he doesn't seem interested in leaving, but fate can be a funny thing. Let me know what you think the Oklahoma coach will do at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
