PK Subban Makes It Weird By Hilariously Bombing With Ham-Handed Joke About His 'Hammer'

Things got a little awkward in the ESPN NHL studio on Wednesday night during Game 3 of the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs first-round series, and it was all thanks to a joke from one PK Subban.

Subban — who, by the way, I think we forget how good he was at his peak; the guy is a Norris Trophy winner — is part of the network's studio team alongside NHL legend Mark Messier and veteran broadcaster Steve Levy.

They were taking a live look at American Airlines arena ahead of Game 2 between the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars, and there must not have been much to see at the time because they showed Vegas Jack Eichel prepping his lumber ready for the game.

Messier remarked that back in his day, they didn't have a new-fangled table saw to cut those Titan twigs of yore to length, he had to use a regular saw like the pioneers used (those weren't his exact words, but the sentiment was there).

He then joked that a lot of guys he played with would have injured themselves with power tools.

Then it was PK's turn.

"I was going to say something, but I'm not gonna say it…"

There's an unwritten rule when it comes to a bunch of dudes hanging out that transcends even the rigidity of the ESPN studios: if you say you were going to say something, and then you don't, it effectively pulls the e-brake on all conversation until you say the thing you said you weren't going to say.

Them's the rules.

Steve Levy did his part to goad Subban into saying it.

"I was gonna say," Subban said; winding up. "I'm not a carpenter, but I carry around a hammer… anyway, go on…"

Oof. I think I heard an air-raid siren after that bomb dropped. PK's a funny guy, but maybe don't open with that at the next open mic down at the Ha-Ha Hut.

"Yes, you do; I've heard," Levy said.

Wait… what?!

Poor Messier is sitting there in between not sure what to do. He's just there to talk puck, not PK's wang.

As awkward as that was, you've got to hand to those three for goofing around like real dudes. That's sort of like their counterparts over on TNT do. Hockey is full of big personalities like Subban, and it's always nice when they get a chance to take center stage.

Even if it was awkward as hell.
