Patrick McMorris Hung Up On Dolphins During Draft, Thought It Was A Spam Call

While waiting to be selected during Saturday's NFL Draft, Patrick McMorris got a call from an unknown number. So he did what all of us do with those pesky spam calls — he hung up.

Except it wasn't a spam call. It was the Miami Dolphins, calling to let him know they were taking him in the sixth round at 198th overall. Luckily for McMorris, though, they called back.

And the former Cal safety is really happy they did.

"You watch it on TV, watch these guys get picked, year in and year out, and now you being in that moment it was definitely just a crazy experience," McMorris said. "It was a dream of mine to get drafted and be able to play play in the NFL.

"Just living out that dream, it was an exciting moment. I’m still a little shaky right now. I’m definitely happy."

McMorris spent the first four seasons of his collegiate career with San Diego State University, but he was most productive in his one season with Cal. In 13 games last year, the 6-foot, 210-pound defensive back collected 90 tackles, along with 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception and seven pass breakups.

"I think it helped me tremendously being able to show that I can learn a whole new playbook within a short amount of time," he said. "And be able to play in the Pac-12 when you have all these great quarterbacks who played this year."

McMorris joins a Dolphins DB room that includes three-time All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey and former second-round pick, safety Jevon Holland.
