Patrick and Brittany Mahomes Visit Survivors At Children's Hospital

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany met with some victims of the shooting that occurred following the team's Super Bowl parade on Wednesday.

According to Daily Mail, the Mahomes spent some time at Children's Mercy Hospital where they met with two young girls who are related to Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the mother and radio host who was killed in the incident.

The two girls — Melia, 8, and Madison, 10 — are sisters who were at the parade with their mother, Erika Reyes, when both received gunshot wounds to the legs. Reyes is cousins with Lopez-Galvan.

Both underwent surgery following the incident and are expected to make full recoveries.

Photos from inside the hospital show the young girls smiling with the Mahomes while holding miniature Chiefs helmets.

"On behalf of the Reyes Family, we are incredibly grateful for the love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Our family, along with the other families impacted by this senseless act, are still healing physically and emotionally," the Reyes family said in a statement.

"We're happy to share that our daughters, ages 8 and 10, are making good progress in their recovery from their leg injuries. Both girls were shot in the legs, underwent surgery, and are currently in casts for several months."

Efforts to support victims and their families after the tragedy are well underway, with the Chiefs joining forces with the United Way of Greater Kansas City to set up a special emergency fund.

This fund has already raised more than $388,000. According to the campaign's web page, $200,000 came from the "The Chiefs, Hunt Family Foundation, & NFL" while an additional $50,000 came from "Patrick, Brittany & the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation."

On Friday, police announced that two juveniles had been charged in connection with the incident.
