Packers Fan Applies For Defensive Coordinator Job, Gets Hilarious Letter Back From Team President

The Green Bay Packers received plenty of inquiries and applications for their vacant defensive coordinator position, including one from a fan of the team. Surprisingly enough, the fan's application made it across the desk of team president Mark Murphy, who offered up an incredible gesture after the fact.

Dan McDermott shared the awesome story on X, formerly Twitter, explaining that his cousin Bill applied for the DC position in Green Bay. Fans jokingly applying for jobs happens every coaching cycle, but what doesn't happen every coaching cycle is the team president acknowledging the application from a fan and then writing them a handwritten note telling them that they didn't land the job.

Murphy did exactly that, and even tipped his cap to Bill's application, which apparently included a full-on cover letter.

"Bill, Thanks so much for your cover letter and resume regarding our Defensive Coordinator position. While your fantasy football experience is impressive, I regret to inform you that we have decided to go in a different direction. I hear the Bears have an opening - you look to be a perfect fit for them. Thanks again. Sincerely-Mark," the letter written on official Packers cardstock read.

Murphy taking a shot at the Bears in his letter was a nice touch.

While Bill's dream of becoming an NFL coach remains just that, he's got quite the story he'll be able to tell his Packers' fan friends until the day he dies.

As for Green Bay, the franchise turned to Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as its new defensive coordinator. Hafley went 22-26 as the head coach at BC over the course of four seasons. Year five very well could have been a make-or-break season for Hafley, and getting out of the college game for one of the premiere assistant jobs in the entire NFL may not have been too hard a decision to make.
