Oakland Puts Hilarious Spin On Tweets Saying Jack Gohlke Will Be Selling Insurance Next Year

Don’t think that one spectacular night on the basketball court means that Jack Gohlke doesn’t get roasted by his teammates anymore.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies guard came to fame by hitting an amazing 10 threes in an 80-76 win over Kentucky (a win that busted my bracket; I had the Wildcats in the final). Lots of fans never dreamed that a 14-seed would be fighting for a spot in the Sweet 16, which the Grizzlies will do tonight against NC State at 7:10 EST.

In fact, some fans are still really salty about the fact that Gohlke and Co. found a way to upset the SEC heavyweights. Because of this, they are unnecessarily reminding Gohlke that his future as a basketball player is limited, and are predicting (rather distastefully) that he will be in a different field very soon.

Now look, I’m certainly disappointed that Oakland’s Cinderella run came at my bracket’s expense. But does that mean I got so wrapped up in my disappointment that I disparage the guy who led the way? Absolutely not.

Oakland Found A Way To Laugh About All Of These Insurance Jokes

Fortunately, Gohlke and the guys in Oakland are taking all this hate in stride and are using it as fodder to roast their friend more tastefully. Head coach Greg Kampe shared the story on CBS’ tournament pregame show earlier today.

"I mean, the whole world’s talking about Jack Gohlke; that’s the greatest thing you can have," Kampe said. "If you could’ve been at our team meal after the game against Kentucky, our players were making so much fun of Jack because somebody had tweeted out that all these Kentucky players are gonna be in the NBA next year, and he’s gonna be selling insurance. (They were) signing the ‘Like a Good Neighbor’ song to him. It was crazy."

Gosh, what I wouldn’t give to be a guest at that dinner. The whole room must have been roaring with laughter.

This is how you put a positive spin on a situation and have your teammate’s back. I think Gohlke and the rest of the team will be in a great headspace heading into tonight’s game against NC State.
