Nick Saban Puts Absurd Intelligence On Display During NFL Draft With Masterful Breakdown Of Instincts

Nick Saban's ability to break down sports is pure art to watch.

Saban joined ESPN following his retirement at Alabama, and the legendary coach has been a major part of the network's NFL Draft coverage.

It's a smart move from ESPN, and no matter what he's getting paid, it's probably still a bargain. The man is a fountain of knowledge.

That was on display Friday night, and it's a must-watch for sports fans.

Nick Saban masterfully explains athletic instincts and intuition.

The former Alabama coach broke down what it means for an athlete to have great instincts and intuition, and I was hanging onto every word.

Saban said the following, in part, Friday during the second round of the draft:

"You can teach a guy how to swing a baseball bat. You can teach him what the strike zone is. But you can't teach him whether it's a good pitch to hit when it leaves the pitcher's hand and gets to home plate. There's some kind of athletic intuition that comes in that. Just like when you're playing defensive back. Do you go and intercept the ball? Do you swat and hook the guy? Do you break down and tackle him? You can teach him how to do all those things, but you can't really teach him when to do it because it happens so fast. So, that's where the instincts and athletic intuition come in to separate players."

Again, whatever ESPN is paying Nick Saban, it's not enough. Give the man more. What an absolute home run of a hire.

Saban won seven national titles - six in Tuscaloosa - and is the most accomplished coach in the history of college football. This video is a great example of what makes him so great.

It's about so much more than Xs and Os. You can scheme it up great and teach the basics, but can a coach find guys with a high football IQ with instincts and intuition? As Saban pointed out, that's what separates athletes.

This is just a taste of what fans can expect once Saban is on College GameDay. That's simply going to be incredible, and I can't wait to soak it all in. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
