49ers' Nick Bosa Becomes First Superstar To Poke Fun At Scottie Scheffler For Getting Arrested
It wasn't going to take long for a high-profile athlete outside the world of golf to throw the first playful jab at Scottie Scheffler following his surprising arrest at the PGA Championship, and that honor belongs to none other than San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa.
Bosa was asked a question about quarterback Brock Purdy following OTAs on Wednesday, which led him to make a joke about Scheffler being arrested. Purdy and Scheffler are similar in the fact that they don't have the biggest personas, are open about their Christian faith, and very much come across as quiet leaders.
Bosa, a four-time Pro Bowler, began comparing Purdy to Scheffler in a positive light before joking that the difference between the two is that one has been arrested.
"I think he’s definitely getting a little more vocal within the building," Bosa said of Purdy. "I don’t think he’s ever going to change. I don’t think he’s somebody that’s going to change even when he gets paid next year. He’s a man of faith."
"He kind of reminds me of Scottie Schefler, except…he didn’t get arrested."
While Nick Bosa being the first star athlete to joke about Scheffler being arrested wasn't on anyone's bingo card, it's a glimpse into what the world's No. 1 ranked golfer is going to hear for years and years to come.
Every single description and fact about the incident at Valhalla that led to Scheffler's arrest sounds like it was nothing more than a complete misunderstanding. Having said that, he was still arrested, and his mugshot picture is going to live on forever.
The whole world - at least those who possess an ounce of common sense - will look back on Scheffler's situation as a joke, but it'll always be a part of the conversation given its shock factor.
Forty years from now, someone will begin talking about Scheffler and be met with ‘hey, remember that time he was arrested at the PGA Championship that one year?' Scheffler probably isn't looking forward to that reality, but that doesn't mean he'll be able to avoid it.
