NFL Running Backs Shuffle Around Ahead Of New League Year

New faces in new places.

The landscape of NFL running backs witnessed a major shift on Monday.

Top options for the position flew off the board and several marquee names joined new teams for 2024 (and beyond?).

Here's a roundup of the top moves among NFL running backs:

D'Andre Swift Joins New Era of Bears Offense

Former Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift joins the 'rebooted' Chicago Bears offense, signing for three years and $24 million.

The big question remains: when will the Bears offload Justin Fields?

Next order of business for the Bears: draft Caleb Williams.

Tony Pollard Replaces Derrick Henry In Tennessee

Last season, Tony Pollard fell short of RB1 expectations with the Dallas Cowboys, taking the mantle from RB darling Ezekiel Elliott.

After failing to impress on his franchise tag last year, Pollard pivoted to a clean slate with the Tennessee Titans, agreeing to a three-year, $24 million deal on Monday.

With some ceiling left to Pollard's game, life without Derrick Henry in Tennessee shouldn't suck as bad. The Titans' assumed QB1, Will Levis, should get along with Pollard.

Josh Jacobs Leaves Las Vegas For Lambeau

Josh Jacobs is heading to the Packers …

… and the #FreeAaronJones campaign is over, at least in Green Bay.

Jacobs agreed to sign with the Green Bay Packers. His deal totals four years and $48 million.

Shortly after agreeing to sign ex-Raider Josh Jacobs, the Packers announced the release of veteran running back Aaron Jones.

Green Bay's split with Jones came as a surprise, considering the beloved RB's impact on the offense late last regular season and in the postseason.

But looking at Jones' age (29), Green Bay's motives appeared clear with starting anew behind Josh Jacobs, 26.

Saquon Barkley, The Turncoat, Joins Divisional Rival Eagles

There's no need to traipse around this one … what a betrayal by Saquon.

Pin it on the Giants' inactive front office or the Eagles' taste for being petty, but Saquon Barkley is now a Philadelphia Eagle, joining Gang Green on a 3-year deal, worth up to $37.75 million.

Barkley sides with his former division rivals, a team he proudly shredded in losing Giants efforts over the past few seasons.

No longer a ‘Giant for Life,' Barkley quests for a championship on a team with a shaky foundation. If you disagree, just ask Nick Sirianni how relieved he was not to lose his job this offseason.

Happy Trails, Saquon

Devin Singletary Joins The G-Men

Former Bills and Texans running back Devin Singletary has big shoes to fill.

Singletary agreed to join the New York Giants on Monday for three years, $16.5 million ($19.5 million guaranteed), according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Giants finally got what they wanted: an ex-Bills player willing to re-team with his boss Brian Daboll on the cheap.

Still lacking a quarterback, the Giants face more work ahead.

Antonio Gibson Bolts For The New England Patriots

Is it much of an upgrade to leave the Washington Commanders, only to end up with the New England Patriots?

For now, let's assume so.

Gibson agreed to sign for three years, $11.25 million ($5.3 million guaranteed) with New England.

Antonio Gibson rushed for 1,037 yards in 2021, flashing some potential with one day commanding a backfield as a three-down option. Gibson added 1,283 receiving yards in four seasons with Washington.

Washington's backfield will be taken over by former Alabama RB Brian Robinson, Jr., who led the bulk of production last season with 178 carries for 733 yards.

Chargers Board The ‘Gus Bus'

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards agreed to sign with the Chargers, coming together on a two-year contract.

Mr. Ekeler Goes To Washington

Former Chargers running back Austin Ekeler will join the Washington Commanders, joining on a two-year, $11.43 million deal.
