New Orleans Pelicans Roast Stephen A. Smith For Calling Zion Williamson Fat Again

The New Orleans Pelicans have decided to fire shots back at Stephen A. Smith after the commentator called Zion Williamson fat…again.

On today’s episode of "First Take," Smith roasted the former No. 1 draft pick for remaining in substandard physical shape. He said that Williamson spends more time thinking about his next McDonald’s run than getting into shape.

"Zion Williamson, it’s not about his game. It’s about how many burgers he’s eating and whether or not he’s going to be in shape or is he going to keep eating McDonald’s and keep having chefs clamoring for him to come to their restaurants," Smith said. "That’s what he has to prove: that the chefs don’t love him any longer. That he’s committed to playing basketball and being in shape."

Smith was also referring back to his comments in December when he said that every chef in New Orleans loved Williamson because all he would do is eat.

To be fair, Smith had a point. Williamson weighs roughly 284 pounds and is not in the best shape in general. And since that December call out, Williamson hasn’t done much to improve his physique.

The Pelicans Responded With An Incredible Roast Of Smith

However, Smith isn’t the only one who can play the call–out game. Less than six hours after hearing the commentator roast their franchise player, the Pelicans released a highlight reel of Smith’s basketball career.

And by "highlight," I mean bloopers.

Not only did they compile footage of several Smith mishaps on the hardwood (and baseball diamond), they posted a viral graphic of his that showed his less than stellar college basketball career statistics.

Smith has said in the past that his career stats were worse than what was in the graphic. But nonetheless, the Pelicans have sent a strong message.

If Smith continues to come after Williamson, he can expect to be mocked with equal severity. This is the sports franchise-celebrity beef I didn’t know I needed.
