NCAA Wrestling Champions Wear '100% Jesus' Headbands, Share Powerful Message After Victories

A pair of wrestling national champions showed their support for Jesus Christ over the weekend by wearing headbands that read ‘100% Jesus’ across the front of them at the NCAA Championship meet.

Penn State's Aaron Brooks, along with his Nittany Lions teammate Carter Starocci, became four-time NCAA champions over the weekend with Brooks taking down NC State's Trent Hidlay to win the title.

David Carr of Iowa State won a national championship at 165 pounds and celebrated with Brooks, a close friend of his, while both wore the ‘100% Jesus’ headbands as they congratulated one another. Carr held off a strong comeback effort by Penn State's Mitchell Mesenbrink to earn his hardware.

Both Carr and Brooks drew attention not only for their efforts on the wrestling mat, but for the headbands proclaiming their Christian faith.

Shortly after his win, Brooks was asked what exactly was going through his mind after winning his fourth title, and his attention immediately turned to Jesus.

"It might be boring – it’s the truth, It’s the Lord, the Holy Spirit," Brooks explained. "It keeps me calm. It keeps me poised, but I remember it’s bigger than this."

"These four titles come and go, His word remains forever."

Carr talked about his faith during his post-match press conference as well.

"Like always, all glory to God," Carr said. "I prayed before the match, ‘Give me unlimited energy and focus.’ And when I was out there, I just kept telling myself just focus and keep wrestling hard. It feels awesome to end my career on top."

Talk about being humble.

It's clear that Carr and Brooks share a bond through the sport, but also away from the wrestling spotlight through their faith.
