Mike Vrabel Lands A Job With The Cleveland Browns In A Consulting Role

Mike Vrabel may not have landed a head coaching job in this past hiring cycle, but it didn’t take long for him to find another NFL job.

The Cleveland Browns hired the former Tennessee Titans head coach to their staff as a personnel and coaching consultant. Vrabel, now 48 years old, will return to his home state to help a Cleveland team that looks poised to contend for an AFC North title.

Vrabel grew up in Northeast Ohio, and played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1993-1996 (where he was a consensus All-American).  After winning three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots during his career, he retired from the NFL in 2011.

However, Vrabel’s success did not translate as well as a head coach. He finished with a 54-45 record in the regular season over six years at the helm in Tennessee. The Titans reached the AFC Championship game in 2019, but never won a playoff game after that with Vrabel at the helm (they were 2-3 in the postseason in that span). After a 6-11 record and fourth-place finish in the AFC South, Tennessee released him.

Despite a sour ending in Nashville, Vrabel was still regarded as one of the top coaching candidates in the league. As such, it's no surprise that he landed a role with one of the most promising teams currently in the league. This move holds nothing but upside for Cleveland.
