Kyle Pitts Shuts Down Ridiculous Rumor About Kirk Cousins Asking Him For No. 8 Jersey Amid Link To Falcons

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and one of the handful of teams he's been heavily linked to is the Atlanta Falcons. While the rumors about Cousins landing in the ATL are rampant, Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts isn't exactly ready to jump aboard the rumor train.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio - who desperately wants you to take him seriously - joined The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week and not only touched on the Cousins to the Falcons rumors, but added fuel to the fire.

Florio oddly prefaced his comments by saying he hadn't confirmed them yet, but still went on to say that Cousins had been in contact with Pitts about wearing No. 8. Both players wear the No. 8 jersey at the moment.

"Haven’t confirmed this part yet, but it’s just one of those little things that makes sense," Florio said regarding the Cousins rumors. "You know, [Cousins was] talking to the guy who currently wears No. 8, Kyle Pitts, about getting No. 8 before any of this stuff is done."

Pitts caught hold of the clip on X, formerly Twitter, and accused Florio of making the whole thing up.

The phrasing of Florio's comment is truly bizarre.

Him saying that he hasn't confirmed this part, but "it's just one of those little things that makes sense" screams ‘I totally made this up and I just have my fingers crossed that it's true.'

On top of all that, Cousins doesn't seem like the type of player who would potentially make or break his decision on joining a team based on jersey numbers that are available. He definitely doesn't seem like someone who would hold those sorts of discussions without putting pen to paper, either.

What we have here is another case of Mike Florio looking foolish, but thanks to the fast-paced news cycle and the inevitable wrong step he'll take in the coming hours, we're supposed to forget about it and move on.
