Kansas Football Coach Scores Massive Raise: DETAILS

Kansas football coach Lance Leipold is becoming a very rich man.

The Jayhawks had become a complete joke in college football prior to Leipold's arrival, but it appears the dark days are gone. The former Buffalo and UW-Whitewater coach did the unthinkable:

He made Kansas competitive. 

Now, he's been rewarded with a fat raise. Kansas announced a new deal for the program's football coach, and he's set to an average of $7 million annually under the new terms, according to Pete Thamel.

His salary is among the top three averages in the Big 12.

For comparison, Leipold earned just under $6 million last season after guiding the Jayhawks to a 9-4 season and an appearance in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

It was the second straight year Kansas made a bowl game. The idea of back-to-back bowl appearances would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. Now, he has the program rolling and he's getting a significant raise after the team's best season since 2007. 

It's really hard to explain just how bad Kansas was before Lance Leipold took over. The team won a grand total of nine games from 2015 through the 2020 season. Nine games. Stop and think about that for a second. It's beyond embarrassing. It's downright pathetic.

Lance Leopold won nine games last season and is 15-11 over the past two years. When you turn a program around in college football, you get paid.
