Tragic Shooting Ignites Wave of Support From NFL

Support poured out for the victims of the Union Station shooting, which occurred after the Chiefs' Super Bowl rally — hosting thousands of fans. The NFL, teams and players around the league shared their support, and some commentary, regarding the shooting.

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce reacted to the shooting on social media.

"Praying for Kansas City," Mahomes posted.

Kelce added, "I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me."

The NFL issued a statement on the shooting:

"We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred today near the end of the rally in Kansas City for the Chiefs. Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected. We are grateful for the quick and thorough response of law enforcement and emergency personnel."

NFL teams also rallied around the people of Kansas City, with many organizations relaying their own statements on social media.

Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu had the most pointed view of the event, criticizing gun laws in America based on Wednesday's shooting.

"Prayers for those affected at today’s parade," Omenihu posted on X. "A time of celebration ends in tragedy. When are we going to fix these gun laws? How many more people have to die to say enough is enough ? It’s too easy for the wrong people to obtain guns in America and that’s a FACT."

The Kansas Police Department detained three people suspected of orchestrating the attack on innocent lives. The department did not identify a motive.
