Kentucky Announces Decision On John Calipari's Fate
John Calipari will get at least one more season in Lexington with the Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky was bounced from the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Oakland in a shocking upset loss, and the team has just one tournament win in the past five seasons.
Many UK fans have thrown the towel in on Calipari and are ready for change. There's been nonstop chatter about what AD Mitch Barnhart should and will do.
Will Calipari lose his job? Will he survive to fight another day? The decision is in, and some fans might not love it.
Kentucky not firing John Calipari.
Calipari met with Barnhart Tuesday, and was able to secure another year with the Wildcats by the end of the meeting.
It is set to remain the Calipari show in Lexington, whether fans like it or not.
As you'd expect, college basketball fans had plenty to say, and very little was positive. Check out some of the reactions below, and hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
Kentucky used to be one of the most dominant programs in America, and that includes large chunks of Calipari's time as the team's head coach.
However, the past several years have simply not been acceptable by UK standards. One NCAA Tournament win in five seasons is simply not acceptable for Kentucky fans, and it never should be. It's made worse by two of the program's recent first round exits came as a two seed and a three seed. Fans have every reason to be irate.
Yet, Calipari isn't going anywhere for now. He'll be back coaching the team for the 2024-25 season. Let me know your reactions to Calipari keeping his job at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
