Jaromir Jagr Got At Least One Vote In The Finnish Election Despite Not Being On The Ballot… Or Finnish

Could Jaromir Jagr — one of the greatest hockey players of all time, throw his name into the political arena?

Who knows? Whether he does or not, he already has one vote.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, because you probably had it circled on your calendar, but there was a presidential election in Finland this week. Former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb will now face ex-Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto in a run-off, but enough about them.

No offense to Finland but the only Finnish politicians I know are the one president who looked like Conan O’Brien and the prime minister one who liked to party.

This is to say that I haven't brushed up on Finnish politics in a minute (I know, I've gotten lazy) so I don't know how either candidate is when it comes to the issues facing the Fins.

Hell, I don't even know what those could be. I'm going to have to assume saunas and reindeer are involved in some capacity.

However, one educated Finnish voter wasn't big on Stubb or Haavisto and decided to  ̶w̶a̶s̶t̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶i̶r̶ ̶v̶o̶t̶e̶ exercise the power of democracy and cast a write-in vote… for Jaromir Jagr.

As much as I would love to see a Jarmoir Jagr Cinderella run to the Finnish presidency, it can't happen. Just like here in the States to become the President of Finland you've got to be a natural-born citizen.

Jagr is of course a native of Czechia.

Missing Out On President Jaromir Jagr Is Finland's Loss

However, I see that as Finland's loss. Jagr is still playing pro hockey at the age of 51. As you might expect, he's known to be obsessive about his workout and practice habits. The guy is ultra-focused on being at the peak of his profession and has been for the better part of three decades.

Isn't that what you should want out of your president? Someone who will be handling presidential duties with the tireless work ethic of a hockey legend?

Of course, it is, and who better to do that than a hockey legend like Jaromir Jagr?

Rules are rules, so I guess we'll never see President Jagr… at least not in Finland.

Your move, Czechia… if you have a president.
