Jalen Brunson's Dad Showered All-Star With 'Tough Love' After Losing 3-Point Shooting Contest: 'Effing Bum!'

New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson received some tough love from his pops after failing to secure the winning pot from Saturday's NBA 3-Point shooting contest.

There was action peppered throughout the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend that 99 percent of us missed, including Brunson getting heckled by his own dad — Rick Brunson — when he failed to advance.

Rick also works as an assistant coach on the Knicks.

"You effing bum!" someone shouted at Brunson from behind the bench. Jalen gave a breakdown of the moment with longtime teammate Josh Hart on their podcast. Brunson shared a shocked reaction to finding out his dad was ticked off at Jalen for losing out on the 3-Point contest's $50,000 prize.

See, Rick really wanted to update his home basement, which he planned to do with the contest earnings Jalen never won.

"I heard some dude behind the bench, some bald guy sitting behind the bench," Brunson shared. "I heard, 'You effing bum!' I was like 'Who just said that?' My dad. He was like, 'Yeah, with that bonus we could have finished my basement.'"

Losing out on the money must've been a heart-breaker for Jalen Brunson and Rick Brunson — the former being worth $104 million as an All-Star-level talent, with a trajectory for more max contracts in the future.

The Brunson's will surely ‘rebuild’ after the tragic loss on Saturday …

Tough Love Working Out For Jalen Brunson

Jalen Brunson's season thus far has placed him in the top tier of NBA guards and unveiled his full ability as an elite scorer … so why is Papa Brunson dropping the hammer on his son for a meaningless contest?

Jalen Brunson's never shied away from the vigorous path his dad set him on, at a young age, to become an elite NBA talent. But the blood, sweat and tears are paying off for the 27-year-old Brunson.

Despite getting overlooked for a stout frame at 6-foot-1-ish, Brunson remains a consummate point guard, with adept strength and speed to distribute and shoot at a high level.

Brunson is averaging 27.6 points and 6.5 assists per game this season. And he's making the Knicks popular again.

Slotted fourth in the East, coach Tom Thibodeau and Brunson have the Knicks ready to test their conference deep in the postseason this year if their momentum keeps running. Not getting called an effing bum is motivation enough for Jalen Brunson.
