Indiana Hoosiers Make Decision On Head Coach's Future, Fans React

Mike Woodson's job at Indiana reportedly is safe for at least one more season.

Woodson hasn't exactly performed at a level Indiana fans expect out of the basketball program, and is just 61-39 at this point in his third season with the program.

The Hoosiers are currently 9-10 in Big Ten play, and short of a miraculous B1G tournament run, will be watching the NCAA Tournament from home after failing to make it past the first weekend in the previous two seasons.

Yet, Woodson - who played at Indiana - isn't going anywhere.

Indiana reportedly will not fire Mike Woodson.

The Hoosiers will keep Woodson for at least one more season, according to multiple reports, despite the team clearly trending in the wrong direction.

Woodson also didn't seem interested at all in discussing his job status after beating Minnesota Wednesday night. The man busted out the classic "no comment" strategy.

Generally speaking, people happy with their job status have no problem discussing it.

Just in case you were wondering, Indiana fans weren't overly happy with the decision. Hoosiers supporters are diehard basketball fans, and Woodson has the program sliding into irrelevance.

They want better but aren't going to get it.

And here are some fun reactions from the always rational and reasonable people on Reddit:

  • He’s cooked but I get it.
  • So this is the best we can do as a program. Cool cool cool.
  • The program is dead.
  • Next year is going to be a f*cking disaster.

Indiana basketball fans demand excellence, and it's not unreasonable to do so. It's the most historic basketball state in the country. It's literally the state of the classic "Hoosiers" - a film beloved by all basketball fans.

It's the program where Bob Knight dominated. The program has five national titles and eight Final Four appearances. Yet, does it feel like the Hoosiers are coming close to sniffing that level of success under Mike Woodson? No, but he's still not going anywhere for at least one more year. As fans have indicated, they're not overly impressed.

We'll see how it all shakes out, but something tells me Indiana is going to be in for another disappointing season next year. Let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
