IndyStar's Gregg Doyel Apologizes For Bizarre Comments Directed At Caitlin Clark

On Wednesday, the Indiana Fever officially introduced Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in Monday's WNBA Draft, to the local media. She was joined by Fever head coach Christie Sides and both took questions from the press.

The most memorable moment(s), and not in a good way, came when Gregg Doyel from the IndyStar decided to speak to the two women. Based on what he had to say, it seems like speaking to women is not a common occurrence for Mr. Doyel.

It started with a bizarre exchange with Clark, which OutKick covered earlier Wednesday. At the time, we didn't realize that Doyel had not one, but two, strange exchanges on the day.

First, there was the exchange with Clark.

Not satisfied with one terrible exchange, Doyel decided to try again later when it was the head coach's turn to talk.

Speaking about Clark, Doyel asked Sides about her new player.

Yikes. What is wrong with this guy?

Well, it's no surprise that he quickly decided to apologize. Oh, and he promised to write a column about the whole thing, too. Can't wait to read that.

"Today in my uniquely oafish way, while welcoming @CaitlinClark22 to Indy, I formed my hands into her signature [heart emoji]," Doyel posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"My comment afterward was clumsy and awkward. I sincerely apologize. Please know my heart (literally and figuratively) was well-intentioned. I will do better."

He tagged Clark in his apology, which is even funnier. As of this publishing, Clark has not addressed his apology on X, although she has liked and re-posted other posts since his apology.

Look, part of me respects the hustle. Doyel is getting unprecedented attention, although not any good attention, and he's leveraging it to post a column that will probably be the most-read article he's ever written in his 20+ year career.

Not sure what there's left to say. He acted super creepy towards a young woman, apologized for it, and he's getting dragged. And believe me, he's getting DRAGGED.

Guess we'll have to wait and find out!
