Georgia Transfer RB Trevor Etienne Throws Shade At Florida, Didn't Want To Be On 'Losing Team'

Former Florida running back Trevor Eitinne didn't hold back on why he transferred to Georgia via the portal in a recent podcast with his new teammates in Athens.

If you thought the 2024 matchup between the Gators and Bulldogs in Jacksonville didn't need any type of further buildup, the former Florida running back added some fuel to the fire.

There are plenty of reasons why a player decides to leave a program -- some of it has to do with playing time, while other times it's centered around a coaching staff. Coming off a season where Etienne rushed for 753 yards, while leading the team with eight rushing touchdowns, there was a good chance that Trevor could get a majority of the snaps in 2024.

But, after splitting carries with Montrell Johnson Jr. last season, the former Gator decided it was time to move on, with NIL also playing a factor in his decision. The Bulldogs lost Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards from last year's team that finished with only one loss, losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship.

So, Kirby Smart decided to scour the transfer portal for additional help in the running back room, poaching a player from an opposing SEC team and hated rival. Coming from Florida, with Billy Napier still trying to find his way in Gainesville, while keeping the hounds at bay, it didn't help that the Gators head coach lost one of his most dynamic playmakers.

To make matters worse, Trevor Etienne decided it was time to discuss the reasons why he left Gainesville for Athens, during a podcast appearance with Tate Ratledge and Brett Thorson.

"For me, it was like, does the good outweigh the bad? I was like, I've been with Florida for two years, I went through like that whole process of rebuilding, and they're still rebuilding. I felt like there was a lot of uncertainties, a lot of questions was unanswered, a lot of unknowns going on. And I felt like I could stay here and do what i've been doing for another year or two, or bet on myself and take a chance somewhere else.

"Pretty much to sum it up, it was like I can be running back two on a losing team, or go somewhere. I wanted to play in December too. That also played a big part in me transferring. So I could stay and be running back two on a losing team, or possibly be running back one, and win a natty."

Etienne would go on to say that the Florida locker room wasn't the closest group, mentioning how close-knit the Georgia football team is, during his short time already in Athens.

These comments will obviously not sit well with Florida fans, even if he was speaking his truth. We've seen the problems currently going on in Gainesville with the on-field product, with fans hoping Billy Napier's team can give them hope for the future of Florida football.

Trevor Etienne isn't the first player that has sparked conversations about his former team, and he won't be the last, he's just the latest.

The next transfer portal period opens in April, and i would imagine Billy Napier will look to add a few more pieces to his team for 2024.
