Gabe Davis Posts Lengthy Video On Social Media Likely Signaling He's Leaving Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have to make some difficult decisions this offseason. Based on a video that wide receiver Gabe Davis posted on social media, he's one of the players not likely to return to the team.

Quarterback Josh Allen signed a lengthy and expensive contract-extension with the team prior to the start of the 2021 NFL season. While the contract carried a reasonable cap hit for a few seasons, that changes this year.

Allen's cap hit last year sat around $18 million, allowing the Bills roster flexibility to build around their star quarterback. However, that number jumps to $47 million this upcoming season. It increases to $56.5 million next year.

The NFL is expected to raise the salary cap by a hefty amount, which helps teams like the Bills who have to commit a large amount of money to their franchise quarterbacks.

However, it doesn't completely offset an additional $30 million. Plus, this is the nature of the league. The Bills are paying Stefon Diggs $27.8 million against the salary cap this season. They most likely cannot afford to have both him and Gabe Davis.

Thus, Davis seems to recognize the inevitable. He posted a lengthy video on social media tracking his Buffalo Bills career and listing his career accomplishments. He thanked Bills fans in what looks like a farewell post.

The Bills drafted Davis in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and signed him to a standard four-year rookie deal. That deal has concluded, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Davis provided a lot of value for a fourth-round pick in his four seasons with the Bills.

He caught 27 touchdown passes in the regular season and another six in the playoffs. The talented 24-year-old provided a secondary weapon for Josh Allen alongside Stefon Diggs.

The team used a first-round pick on tight end Dalton Kincaid last year and Kincaid figures to take on a much larger role in the passing game in his second season. That makes Davis more expendable.

There are plenty of teams in the market for speedy receivers who stretch the field, though, so Davis should have plenty of suitors.

The Buffalo Bills probably aren't one of them, though.
