Former NBA Player Matt Barnes Now Becomes Former Broadcaster After Altercation

Matt Barnes has been given the boot by NBC Sports after getting into an altercation with a high school broadcaster.

The former Sacramento Kings NBA Champion who clearly doesn't have any anger management issues, had recently been doing pre-and-postgame analysis for the Kings games on NBC Sports California. However, it's what happened during his son's high school basketball game that now has Barnes in search of a job.

MATT BARNES HAS BEEN FIRED FROM NBC SPORTS

A few weeks ago, when the 43-year-old Barnes was attending the local basketball game, it appeared that Barnes not only took issue with some of the referees' calls, but also a 15-year-old student broadcaster. After yelling at the referees for giving his son a technical foul, Barnes and the opposing team's school broadcaster Jake Lancer can be seen getting into some sort of altercation.

Eventually, Barnes put his hand on Lancer before others stepped in. That's a big no-no, Mr. Barnes - can't be getting into fights at basketball games!

STUDENT DENIES DOING ANYTHING WRONG

After the drama, Barnes semi-apologized, saying that he shouldn't have touched Lancer but that the student was still in the wrong for mocking him. It appears that Barnes comes from the Gregg Popovich school of crying about everything and that "NBA fans" have turned mean.

"This particular incident — I will say my one mistake was putting my hand on [Lancer’s] shoulder. A lot of people want to say I grabbed this kid, or I did this — I literally put my hand on this kid’s shoulder because it was almost like I was talking to my son. … So, he and I had a little back and forth, and obviously … for touching him, I was wrong. But I just didn’t like the disrespect that came with the entitlement where they felt like they could say anything to me," Barnes told Dan Le Be Tard.

15-year-old Jake, however, denies ever saying anything mean to Barnes or his sons.

"[Jake showed] an extremely calm demeanor and professional focus that are unparalleled in high school journalism, and we are honored he is our lead commentator on HWTV," the school tweeted.

NBC Sports California followed up on the entire ordeal by releasing Barnes today.

MANIAC MATT BARNES HAS A HISTORY

It'd be one thing if this was a one-off incident for Barnes. But the former basketball star has displayed some unhinged behavior in the past. Most notably, when he abruptly left basketball practice in 2015 and drove 90-plus miles just to confront Lakers head coach Derek Fisher over the two having a female disagreement!

Unfortunately for Barnes, he found out the hard way that it literally doesn't pay to be a lunatic.
