Former Cardinals Exec Accused of Choking Neighbor Over Damaged Lawn

According to reports former Arizona Cardinals executive Terry McDonough is in some trouble. He's facing simple assault charges stemming from an altercation over his lawn.

People take their lawns seriously (quick reminder that the Thursday Night Mowing League season opens next month), but you can't be out there allegedly choking people as McDonough is accused of doing.

According to The New York Post, Mecklenburg (North Carolina) County court documents say that McDonough was unhappy with the neighbor because he claimed some tractor equipment damaged his lawn.

That's not going to make anyone happy, and it's alleged that McDonough was incensed.

The neighbor claims that McDonough chest-bumped him then put his hands around his neck in an attempt to choke him. This is all alleged to have happened while McDougough was letting the expletives fly.

The neighbor's account came from a criminal affidavit which also mentions that the former Cardinals brass "has a history of volatile behavior and also (was) publicized in national news related to a case he has with the Arizona Cardinals. He tried to strangle me unprovoked and both me and my family do not feel safe."

However, McDonough — who spent ten seasons with the Cardinals — denies these claims.

"Terry McDonough’s neighbor maliciously took a tractor and ran it across his back lawn to destroy his land," McDonough's attorney Michael Casino told Pro Football Talk. "This neighbor has been a serious problem for the entire community. When Terry confronted him, the neighbor attempted to cause physical harm to Terry. Terry never touched the neighbor and left. Civil and criminal charges are now being brought against Terry’s neighbor. The claim of assault by Terry is made up by the neighbor."

McDonough has a court date scheduled on April 11.

The former Cardinals executive was in the news last year after he filed an arbitration claim against the organization. In it, he accused team owner Michael Bidwell of cheating by using burner phones to workaround the suspension of former GM Steve Keim in 2018.

McDonough alleged that he was demoted for not wanting to go along with the plan.
