Florida Football Player Arrested On Serious Charges

Florida football player Michai Boireau is in serious trouble with the law.

The freshman defensive lineman for the Gators was taken into custody in Georgia over the weekend after allegedly fleeing from police at speeds as high as 150 miles-per-hour after an attempt to pull him over for speeding, according to the Monroe County Reporter.

The SEC football player is facing a felony charge of evading a police officer and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, obstruction of law enforcement officers and speeding in excess of maximum limits, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's department.

Boireau spent three nights in the Monroe County Jail before finally being released.

Boireau enrolled early at UF so that he could go through spring practice with the Gators. Now, it appears his future with the team is in huge jeopardy. A college football player getting arrested isn't exactly rare, but you don't often see guys slapped with a felony charge after allegedly trying to flee like it's "Grand Theft Auto."

Add in the fact Boireau isn't a star player, and head coach Billy Napier might decide he's not worth the hassle. Getting arrested on a felony charge before playing a single snap is a tough situation to be in.

Boireau was a three star prospect coming out of Creekside High School in Georgia, and chose The Gators over offers from Auburn, Florida State, Georgia and several other D1 programs. Now, it's unclear what his standing on the team will be. Check back to OutKick for any updates as we might have them, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
