Ex-Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urias Faces 5 Misdemeanor Charges After D.V. Arrest

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has been out of baseball (on administrative leave) since September 2023 stemming from an alleged case of domestic violence following an LAFC game.

The police arrested Urias on Sept. 3 for allegedly getting physically rough with his wife after a Lionel Messi match with Miami F.C. at BMO Stadium.

Now, Urias faces more legal trouble stemming from the arrest.

According to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, Urias faces five misdemeanor charges, including one count of spousal battery. The city attorney's office announced on Monday that it filed the five charges in Los Angeles Superior Court. The charges were "one count of spousal battery, one count of false imprisonment, one count of assault and two counts of domestic battery."

The Los Angeles Police Department obtained video of Urias' altercation with his wife outside of BMO Stadium. Eyewitness accounts provided details of the alleged altercation, noting that Urias shoved his wife against a fence, also pulling her hair.

The 27-year-old instilled bad faith among baseball fans, considering it was his second domestic violence case in the past five years.

After giving him a chance for a comeback, the Dodgers were fed up and let Urias walk in free agency after the season. His domestic violence case from 2019 led to MLB suspending the pitcher. MLB placed Urias on its administrative list three days after his most recent arrest.

MLB is investigating Urias' incident but is more than likely ready to close the door on the ex-ace.
