ESPN Inexplicably Excludes Chennedy Carter's Body Check Into Caitlin Clark From Original Highlight Reel
ESPN's production crew oddly forgot to include Chennedy Carter's body check on Caitlin Clark in its recap of the Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever game.
Unfortunately, the dirty cheap shot by Carter on Clark was the most buzz-worthy event of the game. After exchanging words with Clark on the previous possession, Carter purposefully threw herself into her opponent.
The play generated a lot of buzz, with many fans calling Carter’s hit and Angel Reese’s subsequent reaction classless. Fever general manager Lin Dunn even tweeted out her frustration after the game.
"There’s a difference between tough defense and unnecessary— targeting actions! It needs to stop!" she wrote on X. "The league needs to (clean up) the crap! That’s NOT who this league is!!"
At 5 p.m. EST, ESPN put together a highlight package of the 71-70 Indiana victory. You would think that the self-proclaimed "Worldwide Leader In Sports" would include perhaps the most memorable event of the game in its game recap.
But for some reason, it didn’t.
Here’s what the roughly minute-long recap looked like at 5 p.m.
Kinda weird that Carter’s body check wasn’t in there.
But just an hour later, ESPN released another video, which included the collision. Take a look.
In all likelihood, the producers did not accidentally omit the play, someone in the studio probably said, "We’re not including that."
Now, that doesn’t necessarily explain why they left it out the first time. If I’m anybody on that editorial team, I should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that that’s part of the recap.
But for some reason, that whole ESPN team fell asleep at the wheel on that one. That’s a terrible look for a network that’s trying to do all it can to promote the league.
