Michigan Announces Home Run Basketball Coach Hire After Juwan Howard Firing

Dusty May is the new basketball coach at the University of Michigan.

The Wolverines have been hunting for a new head coach after Juwan Howard was fired following the program descending into chaos.

It didn't take long at all for Michigan to land its man by poaching the FAU coach. University president Santa Ono announced May's hiring late Saturday night.

May and the Owls were eliminated in the opening round by Northwestern.

Michigan hires Dusty May to replace Juwan Howard.

This is a *GREAT* hire by the Wolverines. May is a stunning 60-11 over the past two years with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and the Owls made it all the way to the Final Four last season.

The man is a proven winner, and he's proven he can win against much bigger programs with more resources and talent. FAU's 2023 NCAA Tournament run was legendary.

The Owls beat Memphis, Fairleigh Dickinson, Tennessee and Kansas State before falling to San Diego State in the Final Four.

That's one hell of a run for a mid-major program on the lower end of the spectrum, and we might not see one like it again for a long time.

Michigan's basketball team has fallen on dark and hard times. The school can't afford to miss with its hire, and it most certainly didn't with Dusty May.

He should have no problem getting the program back to a winning level. Fans of the Wolverines should be incredibly excited. Let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com if you agree.
