Former 49ers Star Makes Bizarre Claim About Super Bowl Loss

Former San Francisco 49ers star Donte Whitner thinks the refs were very unfair to his old team in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers fell in the Super Bowl this past season to the Chiefs 25-22 in overtime in a game that won't be forgotten soon. While it wasn't the prettiest football, any championship event that goes to overtime is generally awesome.

Well, Whitner thinks the refs might have been out to make sure Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs didn't lose.

Donte Whitner raises questions about refs in the Super Bowl.

"And when we think about the Super Bowl as well, I think the 49ers played against the refs as well, guys," Whitner said during a Tuesday appearance on "Up & Adams."

"49ers played against Taylor Swift, the refs and the Kansas City Chiefs. All three," he continued. You can watch his full comments below, and hit me with your reactions at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Weak comments from Donte. Very weak comments. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure Taylor Swift dating Travis Kelce didn't influence the refs or the outcome of the game.

If anything, it united America in a common cause behind the 49ers. Yet, Donte wonders if the 49ers were suiting up against not just the Chiefs in February, but also all of the zebras on the field.

Tough look. Tough look for sure.

Blaming the refs is among the weakest things you can do as a current or former athlete. No single play or call decides a game, and as a lot of coaches like to say, never allow the game to be in a position where the refs can influence it.

Go out there, play, win the game and forget the refs. What you definitely don't do is run to the media complaining about the refs about a game *checks notes* that was two months ago.
