Dallas Mavericks Prepare For Victor Wembanyama In Hilarious Fashion

The Dallas Mavericks’ season begins on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs, and they’re taking some elaborate measures to prepare for Victor Wembanyama.

Dallas faces one of the most physically unique players in the NBA. Wembanyama stands at 7’3” and features an 8-foot wingspan, and boasts a surprising level of coordination for someone his height. Long story short, he’s a matchup problem in every way.

Naturally, a specimen of Wembanyama’s status demands unique methods of preparation. Dallas certainly met that challenge in practice this week.

Players ran a drill in which they drove towards an assistant coach, who then forced them to make a move. Now that doesn’t sound that complicated, any of these guys could blow by an assistant coach.

But it wasn’t that simple. The coach had a Wembenyama-like advantage on his side.

He guarded players with foam extensions on his arms to give him a wingspan similar to the 2023 No. 1 overall pick.

The coach looked gassed after the last player in the video made a drive. I would be too, my arms would be exhausted waving those things around.

Wembanyama will force every team to come up with a unique game plan for him. The Mavericks found theirs, we’ll see if it works when the NBA season kicks off.
