Confetti Falls Early In A-10 Championship Game, Nearly Jinxes Duquesne's Win

Someone got a little too excited to celebrate the winner of the Atlantic 10 title game between the Duquesne Dukes and VCU Rams.

With 18 minutes left in the second half of the game, the Dukes held a 38-23 advantage. The Rams had the ball on their offensive end of the court, and were just minding their own business, looking for a bucket.

All of a sudden, confetti started falling from the rafters in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Apparently, someone thought this game was over and Dusquesne already had the title wrapped up.

Perhaps the best part of this whole thing was the fact that Kevin Harlan was on the call for CBS. Using his trademark enthusiasm and sense of humor, he perfectly captured the hilarious nature of the moment.

"Somebody hit the wrong button," Harlan said.

The confetti was red, white, and blue, which are Duquesne’s colors. VCU obviously felt slighted by this gesture, and took it as a sign that no one thought they could punch their ticket to March Madness.

As such, they promptly went on a 9-0 run to bring them within six of the Dukes.

They got to within one with just under two minutes to play, but eventually lost 57-51. Thankfully for Duquesne, the early celebration didn't jinx the whole day.

After the Dukes secured their first tournament bid since 1977, confetti fell once again, but only from one side of the court.

Who says that the pressures of the game only affects the players? Evidently, it can affect stadium employees as well.
