Chris DiMarco Sounds Frustrated About Being Old, Makes Wild Statement About Wanting LIV To Buy Champions Tour

Chris DiMarco earned over $22.6 million during his PGA Tour career that spanned over 20 years, from the mid 1990s to the mid 2010s. He's earned north of $1.25 million on the Champions Tour since turning 50.

Most would agree that earning over $23 million as a professional golfer is a great life, a substantial sum of money, and there would be very little DiMarco could possibly complain about when it comes to the money in professional golf. Well, thanks to the Saudi PIF's influx of endless cash into LIV Golf, DiMarco is no longer pleased with the purses he and his fellow 50+ year old play for on the PGA Tour Champions these days.

The average purse on the ‘senior circuit' is $2 million. When you compare that to LIV players competing for $25 million in each event and the PGA Tour matching that purse for The Players a couple of weeks ago, you can see how DiMarco could be a little frustrated.

Being frustrated and voicing those frustrations, as a 55-year-old who, again, has made an absurd amount of money in the sport, are two different things. DiMarco went with the latter option during an appearance on the SubPar podcast.

"Well, we’re kind of hoping that LIV buys the Champions Tour," DiMarco joked on the podcast. "Let’s play for a little real money out here. I mean, this is kind of a joke when we’re averaging two million. There were like seven guys last week from TPC (The Players) that made more money than our purses."

"I was fortunate you know you came in about the same time as Tiger did so I got to go from we're playing to a million dollars to all of the sudden we're playing for four and five and I thought that was you know 'now we're playing for so much money' and then now Tiger and Rory and all these guys and tour has just gotten even way more than it was."

"All of a sudden they (the PGA Tour) found $150m out of nowhere and added that to the purses and now they've got 14 elevated events at $20 million a piece and TPC at $25 million."

Chris Dimarco Really Wishes He Wasn't 55

We've maybe never seen a more ‘old man yelling at clouds’ moment in professional golf than what DiMarco delivered with these statements.

If it sounds like DiMarco is frustrated that he was born in 1968 instead of 1988, that's because he is.

"I don't fault any of those guys for going to LIV if you had asked me the same thing in 2004 or 05 when I was at the height of my career, 'see you later, I'm gone'," DiMarco said.

"And it would be purely a monetary thing for me, you're talking generational money these guys are making. It'd be nice to have that in the bank to have your kids taken care of and all that, I don't see any problem with it."

I applaud DiMarco for being unfiltered and honest about how he feels about the money in golf and can see where he's coming from, but at the same time I can categorize his comments as out of touch given the great and lucrative career he earned and experienced.
