Chicago Sky Coach Teresa Weatherspoon Gets HEATED In Postgame Press Conference
Friday was a rough night for the Chicago Sky and their coach, Teresa Weatherspoon.
The Sky went into the evening at a less-than-stellar 4-7, but were fortunately facing the Washington Mystics, who ranked last in the league at 1-12. Should be a fairly easy win, right?
Wrong.
Somehow, someway, Chicago ended its evening with a loss. Guard Marina Mabrey missed two free throws in the waning seconds of the game (she would have tied it had she made both), and the Mystics survived to seal an 83-81 win.
After a night like that, everyone would naturally be upset, including Weatherspoon. To make matters worse, the Sky have now lost three straight, but this was certainly the most painful of those games.
With her team floundering and now sitting at 4-8 (and barely in the playoff picture), Chicago is at a bit of a crossroads. Yes, it’s early in the season, but the way things have gone, the team needs to right the ship soon.
As such, a reporter asked Weatherspoon a question along those lines.
"This next stretch of games against the Fever and the Wings, how are you going to use this as a measuring stick to assess whether or not maybe some changes need to happen?" the reporter asked.
That’s a fair question. Both the Fever and the Wings aren’t that good, and if the Sky perform poorly, that could be a sign of deeper problems.
But Weatherspoon took exception to the question, and got up and immediately walked out.
Given all that’s gone wrong for Chicago lately, I don’t know why Weatherspoon found this question to be inappropriate. You’re losing games to the worst team in the league, and you take issue with being asked how you plan to fix it?
That’s pretty lame.
Chicago squares off with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever tomorrow at noon EST.
