Chicago Bears Ink Eagles Safety Kevin Byard To Two-Year Deal

Kevin Byard has found a new home. For the next two years, the safety will call the Windy City home.

The Philadelphia Eagles released Byard on March 1, which freed him up to look for other options within the league. It wasn’t an emotional breakup, the Eagles signed Byard in the middle of the 2023 season from the Tennessee Titans in the hopes of bolstering their defense. If you followed the Eagles’ season, you’ll know that they needed more help on that side of the ball than a former All-Pro safety.

As such, Philadelphia didn’t feel a strong need to keep the 30-year-old, so he became the latest victim of the Eagles' offseason roster overhaul. Fortunately, he landed on his feet rather quickly, as he signed a two-year deal worth a total of $15 million with the Chicago Bears.

Byard confirmed the news with a rather simple tweet that showed his excitement at joining the NFC North franchise.

In total, Byard played in 16 games for the Titans and Eagles in 2023. He tallied one interception, broke up six passes, and recovered one fumble. He will bring veteran leadership and experience to a Chicago team looking to become relevant within the division for the first time in a long while.
