Jay Williams Doubles Down On Idiotic Caitlin Clark Criticism: VIDEO

Jay Williams doubled down on his belief Caitlin Clark isn't the greatest women's college basketball player to ever play the game.

Williams raised a lot of eyebrows when he claimed the Iowa superstar was simply a "prolific scorer" but couldn't be viewed as the greatest ever until she wins a title.

"I think she’s the most prolific scorer the game has ever seen. I hold great, or the levels of immortality or the pantheon, to when you win championships. I’m not saying that she’s not at a high, high, high level, but for it to go to the state of immortality — in my opinion — it has to culminate with your team winning a championship," said a few days ago.

Jay Williams doubles down on Caitlin Clark not being the GOAT.

People were a bit confused by his initial claim, seeing as how Clark is the record holder for points in the women's game, and is clearly in a league of her own from a talent perspective. Yet, the backlash didn't stop Williams from digging a trench and holding the line.

"When I hear people talking about GOATS, for me, I'm like, "OK, you wanna be a GOAT. Fine. There's levels of greatness. You gotta win championships to be GOATS.' So, when people want to don her as the GOAT, I'm like, 'Let's slow down.'…Championships. That's how we measure greatness overall," Williams said Wednesday night during the broadcast of the Kentucky/LSU game.

He noted he finds her to be a great player, but that she can't be the GOAT until she wins a ring. Just a truly wild take from Williams. You can listen to his full comments below, and hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Williams' argument doesn't add up.

I understand the logic of measuring greatness by the number of championships won when it comes to pro sports, because there's no cap on eligibility.

The same isn't true in college. Players often exhaust their eligibility in four years. That's a pretty small window to win a ring. The same isn't true once you're a pro. It's an apples and oranges comparison.

When it comes to pure talent, women's college basketball has never seen a player like Clark. Simply calling her a great scorer doesn't even begin to do it justice. Her passing ability is also among the best in the country. Her court vision is simply absurd.

Anyone who simply talks about her scoring abilities is telling on themselves as someone who doesn't watch her play. Her stats are simply wild. She averages 32.8 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game and 8.5 assists per game. She literally has at least 10 assists in every single one of her last five games.

But, yeah, just call her a great scorer and not much more. Williams is truly off the deep end with his take that she's not the GOAT. It doesn't matter if she wins a title or not. Women's college basketball has never seen a player like Caitlin Clark before, and it might be decades before another one comes along.
