Brewers Rhys Hoskins Hears Boos, Crushes Homer, And Gets Thrown At Against Mets

Rhys Hoskins is kicking off his first season not in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform and boy, oh boy, has it been eventful.

Hoskins and his new Milwaukee Brewers teammates opened their season in New York against the Mets on Friday instead of Thursday thanks to rain.

Obviously, given that he spent 6 seasons with the Phillies, Hoskins wasn't the most popular guy at Citi Field, but he didn't do himself any favors on the popularity front with a hard slide into Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil to break up a double play.

That led to tempers flaring, benches clearing, and Hoskins creating a GIF that will live on the internet for the rest of our lives.

On Saturday, Hoskins got the welcome you'd expect but immediately quieted the crowd with a hard ground ball down the third base line for a two-run base hit.

Even the Brewers' social media team is getting in on it…

Hoskins wasn't done by the way. As if the crowd hadn't been silenced enough, he crushed his first home run as a Brewer.

The Mets faithful did get one thing to cheer about. By the seventh inning, Hoskins was 3-for-3 on the day.

Mets rightly Yohan Ramirez appeared to do a little message-sending and fired a 94 mph fastball right behind Hoskins.

That got a big cheer from the crowd, but it also earned Ramierez an early end to his day.

It's safe to say that Hoskins won't be getting too many free meals in the greater New York area.

And, on the off chance that someone does offer him a free meal, he may want to get someone to taste it first.

The Mets and Brewers wrap up their season-opening three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

After that, the two teams won't meet again until late September when they play a season-ending three-game series.
