Blue Jays Pitcher Tim Mayza Serves As Team Bat Boy As Fantasy Football Punishment

The worst thing you can do in fantasy football is come in last place. And Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza learned that the hard way.

Mayza served as the team bat boy during Toronto's spring training game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday — as a punishment for finishing with an embarrassing 4-10 record in the Blue Jays' fantasy football league.

They even made him a special jersey to commemorate the performance.

According to the game broadcast, Mayza took Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the first round. A good choice — Hill led the league in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also had Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, who tore his Achilles in Week 8.

Of course, fantasy football punishments are nothing new.

In the hit FX show The League, fantasy losers were awarded "The Sacko" — a trophy adorned with a bull's scrotum on the top and the words "You are the worstengraved at the bottom.

Other popular public-shame-style punishments include spending 24 hours in a Waffle House, getting an awful tattoo, going on a date with a blow-up doll and performing a stand-up comedy set.

And last year, Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis revealed that his personal fantasy football league required the last-place finisher to live-stream himself eating an entire pack of raw hot dogs.

All things considered, maybe being a bat boy isn't so bad.

Mayza may suck at fantasy football, but on the mound — you know, his actual job — he had a pretty solid year. In 2023, the southpaw notched a career-best 1.52 ERA, registering 53 strikeouts across 69 innings.

The Blue Jays finished 89-73 last year, but they were bounced in the Wild-Card round by the Minnesota Twins.
