Ben Simmons Probably Done For After Another Season-Ending Back Injury

Back At It.

Ben Simmons couldn't escape the dreaded lower-back nerve issue that has hindered his career.

The Brooklyn Nets guard suffered another season-ending back injury, announced Thursday via the Nets. The oft-injured, former All-Star played only 15 games this season before shutting down. Simmons averaged 6.1 points, 5.7 assists and 7.9 rebounds. Simmons joined the Nets in 2022 via the James Harden trade with Philadelphia.

Between the injuries and delayed returns from injury, Simmons prompted serious concern over the longevity of his NBA career, not just with his immediate future in Brooklyn but whether the former No. 1 overall pick can play another season in the NBA, period.

According to the Nets, Simmons will consult "with specialists and explore treatment options for the nerve impingement in his lower back."

Since 2022, Simmons has missed 189 games, playing only 57 games in that span.

The Nets released a press statement on Simmons' season-ending injury:

"Ben Simmons will remain out for the remainder of the season while he consults with specialists and explores treatment options for the nerve impingement in his lower back," the team announced.

"Simmons, along with his representatives and Nets medical personnel, are currently in discussions with numerous experts to determine the course of action that will provide him with the best opportunity for long-term sustainable health."

Positioned in the 11th slot in the East, the Brooklyn Nets' season is beyond cooked.
