Arizona Coyotes Take Shot At Toronto Maple Leafs On Social Media And It Ends Poorly

The Arizona Coyotes did their best Wile E. Coyote impression by taking a swipe at the Toronto Maple Leafs on social media, only for it to blow up in their face like an ACME brand dynamite plunger.

The 'Yotes and Leafs squared off on Thursday night in Toronto. And the Arizona social media team decided to remind everyone of a little piece of hockey trivia.

Now, that's true. The Leafs didn't win a playoff series from 2004 until last season. Meanwhile, the Coyotes weren't exactly world-beaters, in that same stretch, but they did go on a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2012, so obviously in that season alone they had to win at least 12 games, which would juice their total.

Of course, the Leafs are fourth all-time in playoff wins, and second in Stanley Cups with 13. Of course, they haven't won a Cup in the expansion era. Their last one capped off the 1966-67 season which was the final season before the Flyers, Penguins, Kings, Blues, North Stars, and Seals joined the league for the ‘67-’68 season.

I love goofing on the Leafs as much as anyone — and that shot from the ‘Yotes was a good one — you just need to pick your spots. Firing a shot across another team’s bow while you're in the midst of a 13-game losing skid and playing in an arena that holds less than 5,000 people maybe isn't the time.

And as you'd expect, people were more than happy to remind them of this.

There are dental school hockey games?

Anyway, that salvo from the Coyotes — while accurate — didn't age well at all. They fell to the Leafs 4-2 which extended their losing streak to 14 games.

Arizona has a chance to get back in the win column on Friday night against the Ottawa Senators.
