Another Georgia Player Arrested In The Off-Season For Reckless Behavior

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested on Sunday at 4:35 a.m. ET and charged with misdemeanor DUI, reckless driving, affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield and failure to maintain lane/improper driving on the road. He posted $1,883 bond and was released at 5:27 a.m. ET according to Athens-Clarke County records.

Etienne, the brother of former Clemson and current Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, transferred from Florida to Georgia during the offseason after two seasons with the Gators. He rushed for 753 yards, had 172 receiving yards, 224 yards on kick returns and totaled nine touchdowns (eight rushing, one receiving) in 11 games. That came after a freshman season in which Etienne rushed for 719 yards and six touchdowns.

Georgia has not commented on the incident or Etienne’s status for the rest of spring and the start of the season.

Georgia Running Back Trevor Etienne Arrested

Etienne’s move to Athens was one of the biggest transfer stories of the offseason. He was ranked No. 19 overall and No. 2 among running backs in the On3 transfer portal rankings.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pounder from Jennings, Louisiana, is slated to be Georgia’s top option at running back this season.  He is ahead of Branson Robinson and a host of other likely contributors. Robinson is still rehabbing a leg injury that ended his 2023 season early. So, with Clemson looming to open the season, it’s safe to say that Etienne’s status will be something to monitor as the season approaches.

Coach Kirby Smart actually raved about Etienne earlier this month when asked about player leadership.

"Everything that we've heard about Etienne before we got here has held true," Smart said. "He’s a tremendous leader, high-character kid. He immediately surges into a leadership role because he's not a first-year player. He's been in our league, in our conference. He has standards and expectations. He's high character. He's proven that the time he's been here."

Georgia will begin its quest to win its third national championship over a four-year span against Clemson on August 31 in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

University Statement

Early this afternoon, Georgia released this statement about the situation:

"We are aware of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information. This is a pending legal matter and we will not have further comment at this time."
