Lions Star WR Lands Monster Extension, Detroit Proves It's Committed To Winning

Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is going to become a very rich man over the next few years.

St. Brown has been one of the main pillars of Detroit's offense since entering the league in 2021, and he's been a huge part of the Lions becoming a legit contender.

When you win and put up numbers in the NFL, you get paid. It's that simple, and the talented receiver has his bag.

Detroit Lions and Amon-Ra St. Brown agree on huge extension.

Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes have assembled a hell of a roster, and are now doing whatever is necessary to keep it together.

Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the team's WR1 has agreed to an extension worth up to $120 million over four years, and St. Brown receives $77 million guaranteed.

That's a big chunk of cash.

Generally speaking, I'm not someone who gets too worked up about contracts. Doesn't make much difference to me, but this is a bit different.

Detroit has been a punching bag for decades, and the team has consistently failed to capitalize on elite talent. Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson retired early, Matthew Stafford was never able to accomplish much with the guys given to him and there's been a lot of losing over the past 30 years.

However, these aren't your grandpa's Lions. Not even close. The team has turned a page behind Dan Campbell's leadership, savvy drafting and smart roster decisions. That last part sometimes requires serious money to be spent, and that's what the Lions are doing to keep St. Brown in town.

Seeing as how he had 10 receiving touchdowns (tied for fourth in the NFL) and 1,515 receiving yards (third in the NFL) on 119 receptions (tied second in the NFL), it seems like a smart business move. The Lions are committed to never going back to the old ways, and the franchise has a team built to win at a high level in 2024.

As a fan of the Lions, it's a refreshing change of pace. Fans have plenty to look forward to this season. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
